Educate. Evolve. Elevate.

Engaging Teaching & Research as Praxis and Acts of Service

I am a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Psychology, and Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica.

My research areas include the psychosocial experience of women and girls with marginalised identities, stigma faced by people living with mental illness and HIV, trauma-informed and trauma-responsive practice, and epistemic violence in research.  I work with participatory research frameworks that include research participants in phases of research design, data collection, and data analysis. I intentionally weave my commitment to social justice and activism into as many aspects of the research process as possible. My teaching is grounded in trauma-informed critical pedagogy and arts-based approaches to exploring curricula as lived experiences.

I integrate artmaking, painting, poetry, and storytelling into my research and teaching because these have been the frames that my ancestors used to understand and navigate the world. I am dedicated to Pan-African research and scholarship and I hope this is evident in everything I do in the academy.
